Today a new sun rises for me; everything lives, everything is animated, everything seems to speak to me of my passion, everything invites me to cherish it.

When all the good movies come out!

I have a ticket to the 12:01 am showing of Iron Man the first day it comes out. I am so excited and can’t wait for this movie! It’s got an amazing cast (Downey Jr, Paltrow, Howard) and promises to be the right amount of action, drama, and good ol’ fashioned comic book pizzaz.

And then next week… Speed Racer opens! I’m not as excited for this one, but it is a Warner Brothers film and I think it’ll be quite entertaining. Plus, Warner Bros is doing a family screening of it for employees, so if anyone is gonna be in town May 10th, let me know and we’ll go see Speed Racer!

Other movies I’m looking forward to seeing this summer and the rest of the year, after the jump.

  • The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – The usual cast, plus Ben Barnes as Prince Caspian. The Pevensie siblings return to Narnia, where they are enlisted to once again help ward off an evil king and restore the rightful heir to the land’s throne, Prince Caspian.
  • Tropic Thunder – Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr, Jack Black, various cameos. Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying.
  • Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – Ford, Joan Allen, Shia LeBeouf, Cate Blanchett. Famed archaeologist/adventurer Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones is called back into action when he becomes entangled in a soviet plot to uncover the secret behind mysterious artifacts known as the Crystal Skulls.
  • Son of Rambow – Unknown cast. SON OF RAMBOW is the name of the home movie made by two little boys with a big video camera and even bigger ambitions. Set in a long English summer in the early ’80s, Son of Rambow is a comedy about friendship, faith, and the tough business of growing up.
  • Get Smart – Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin. Bungling secret service agent Maxwell Smart is on a mission to battle the forcest of Control’s evil crime nemesis, known as KAOS, with his more competent partner Agent 99 at his side.
  • Wall-E – Pixar. The year is 2700. WALL*E, a robot, spends every day doing what he was made for. But soon, he will discover what he was meant for.
  • Wanted – James MacAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie. WANTED tells the tale of one apathetic nobody’s transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice.
  • Hancock – Will Smith, Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman. A hard-living superhero who has fallen out favor with the public enters into a questionable relationship with the wife of the public relations professional who’s trying to repair his image.
  • Hellboy II: The Golden Army – The usual cast. The mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the earth, so as Hellboy and his team returns, they must save the world from the rebellious creatures.
  • The Dark Knight – Christian Bale, Heath Ledger (R.I.P.), Gary Oldman. Batman and Gordon join forces with Gotham’s new D.A., Harvey Dent, to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker, whilst other forces plot against them, and Joker’s crimes grow more and more deadly.
  • Hamlet 2 – Unknown cast. In this irreverent comedy, a failed actor-turned-worse-high-school-drama teacher rallies his Tucson, AZ students as he concieves and stages a politically incorrect musical sequel to Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
  • Quantum of Solace – Daniel Craig, Judi Dench. Continues the high octane adventures of James Bond in Casino Royale, picking up from Vesper’s death and investigating Mr. White.
  • The Soloist – Robert Downey Jr., Catherine Keener, Jamie Foxx. A schizophrenic, homeless musician from Skid Row, Los Angeles dreams of playing at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – The usual cast. As Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously “This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince” and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort’s dark past.
  • Australia – Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, David Wenham. Director Baz Luhrmann’s film is set in northern Australia prior to World War II and centers on an English aristocrat who inherits a cattle station the size of Maryland.
  • Changeling – Angelina Jolie, John Malkovich, my roommates Aimee and Bonnie (as background artists). A mother’s prayer for her kidnapped son to return home is answered, though it doesn’t take long for her to suspect the boy who comes back is not hers.

Most trailers can be found here at Apple. Make sure you watch the high-def ones if your computer can handle it, and turn up those speakers!

What movies are you looking forward to? Know of any I’ve missed that should be on my list?
