… that on February 29, 1288, Scotland established February 29th (Leap Day) as a day when a woman could propose marriage to a man. In the even that he refused the proposal, he was required to pay a fine. (How big a fine, is what I want to know. And did Sadie Hawkins know about this?)
Oh damn, I just missed it. I was too busy enjoying one of my dearest friend’s wedding that day, and thus it totally slipped my mind.
Still, it’s an interesting idea…
Oh well, there’s always four years from now…..

Oh yeah! Scotland had wacky ideas (compared to their southern neighbors) about marriage. They also had a town just over the border called Gretna Green where a priest was always on call to wed eloping English couples.
