Today a new sun rises for me; everything lives, everything is animated, everything seems to speak to me of my passion, everything invites me to cherish it.

- Anne de Lenclos

Finally, finally, finally… I can tell you who was on the lot today.  Things are still slow, but stages, production offices, and the Mill are slowly waking back up to life.  Two and a Half Men is perhaps the first show on the lot to really be back in the full swing of things – they are taping in front of a live audience on Friday (and yes, I’m going).

So while it won’t be until next year that things are truly as they were (Chuck and Pushing Daisies won’t be returning until the fall – read why here), the lot is still a happening place.

Today on the lot I saw Gary Oldman.  And his ex-wife Lesley Manville. With his three kids.  Yeah, apparently even classic British film stars go on vacations and do things like take tours of local movie studios.  The sad parts: they weren’t on my tour, and the goof who checked them in (checked their passports, charged their credit card, printed their passes) didn’t know who Gary Oldman was!!  And I talked to the guide who did take out Gary and his family and the guide said that no one else on the cart had any idea.  Sadness.

Also on the lot, Speed Racer.  Yeah, the car from the Japanese cartoon.  We made Speed Racer into a live-action film starring Emile Hirsch, John Goodman and Matthew Fox, and so the car was on the lot today for some promos.  I took a picture, but with my cell phone, so sorry about the quality.

I’m so glad the strike is over.  If anyone is in town and wants to go to a taping of Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, or The New Adventures of the Old Christine, just let me know and I’ll get us tickets!

  1. Elizabeth would have died and gone to heaven to actually meet Gary Oldman. Besides his Harry connection, we’re big fans of Air Force One (one of the few R-rated dvds we own). But his work as Sirius Black gives him an “A” in her book. Can’t believe people didn’t recognize him — but perhaps that’s his preference when on vacation…. (too bad he wasn’t on YOUR tour!).

Glad the strike is finally over and the lot is coming back to life. Yay!!!!!! You should have seen Elizabeth dancing around when she read the news online.

  2. Holy cow! I had no idea that the man who played Sirius was the same man who played the bad guy I loved in Air Force One! And he’s Rosencrantz in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead?! This reminds me of the time when I found out that Christopher Guest was everyone. They’re chameleons. I would totally love to meet Gary Oldman! I’m sorry you didn’t get him on your tour! I wish I were in town to go to tapings with you… less than 5 months and I’ll be moving a lot closer! :)
