Every Monday night, an event occurs called Chuckfest.
Chuckfest is a simple event, and doesn’t require much pomp or fancy to-do. All you really need is a t.v. tuned to NBC and fans of the new hit show Chuck.
So ever since Chuck started filming on the lot (this would be sometime at the end of summer), some co-workers and I have solemnly sworn that every week we would have Chuckfest and watch the show. Oh, and promote the show to our guests like we were promoting oxygen.
And we’ve done just that. Promoted the show like crazy (I even threaten to take guests back to the tour center early if they don’t promise to watch the show), and watched every episode.
Rizzo, one of my co-workers, volunteered his place for the weekly Chuckfest. He made a cute flyer and everything, with his name, address, and number on it (in case we got lost). This flyer was posted on our fridge in the break room at work (the WB Tour department, in case any of you forgot).
One of our managers, the amazing April, has a former employee who now works on the lot as a production assistant for Chuck. And I guess this employee was visiting April one day, saw the flyer, and asked to take it, promising to post it in a location where everyone who worked on Chuck would see it.
This was a great development in our master plan to eventually get someone working on Chuck to come to one of our weekly Chuckfests. It all starts with the people at the bottom, right?
So tonight, we’re watching Chuck. Rizzo gets a call about four minutes in, but doesn’t answer it because the call is coming from a private number and we’re in the middle of the show (hey, if it’s important, they’ll leave a message, right?).
A couple minutes later, on the commercial break, Rizzo gets another call. This time he answers. We kind of ignore him, as we’re all chatting about what we’ve seen so far of the episode.
(By the way, tonight’s Chuckfest was attended by Rizzo, Aaron Lee, Lea, my roommate Bonnie, and myself. It’s a small crowd, but there’s lots of love.)
Rizzo comes back into the room and interrupts us by muting the tv and tell his caller that he’s going to put the call on speaker phone.
The caller says: (a rough paraphrase, as my mind remembers it) Oh hey guys! Sorry to interrupt the show. I know it’s a good one. We watched this episode Friday night and it’s great. Oh look, I don’t mean to interrupt the show, but I just wanted to call and say thanks so much for watching the show and talking it up and for supporting us. On behalf of the whole cast here, we really appreciate all that you guys do to get the word out. Seriously, you guys are great. Oh, and if I ever get a Monday night off, I’ll try and swing by.
Yeah, Zach Levi called Rizzo. Called just to tell us thanks for pimping the show and he’ll try and stop by some time. Chuck called us while we were watching Chuck.
Wow. How often does that happen?!? I mean, think about it. Has Josh Holloway ever called you in the middle of an episode of Lost? Or Eva Longoria during an episode of Desperate Housewives? See? It never happens.
Except if you were at Chuckfest tonight and Zach Levi called. Then maybe it does happen.
Like I’ve said before, Zach is a smart kid. He knows that we are going to tell our whole department about this, and even though they’ll be jealous at first, soon every tour guide is going to be telling their guests all about Chuck and how awesome the cast is.
Zach is the real deal here, folks. He’s the real Captain Awesome.
Wow, now if only Yvonne Strahovski called me….oh man.

So you didn’t say anything clever to him like, “What’s up, Chuck?” Good. By the way, what is your Chuckfest group’s official name? “The Nerd Herd”? Kudos to you for scoring such a great connection. I like it.

How clever a plan… maybe you’ll get to work on that show someday soon!
